![]() ![]() Apple Silicon is an entirely different architecture than Intel and its power consumption does not translate to a 25% efficiency. The error that is causing the discrepancy between the reported battery life and your calculated battery life is your assumption that Apple's estimate is 25% truthful. I'm curious if there'll ever be a day that the battery bulging will be done with? Shouldn't the "low power mode" remain even when connected to the charger, at the very least before the battery is charged? Does it? NotebookCheck indicates an average temperature of MBA M1 on load of 35 to 44degC for the entire bottom of the laptop, which is scalding hot compared MT8183 Lenovo Flex 11M836 having over half of the laptop at below 23degC even at full load.Īlso, does the "low power mode" automatically turns off when you connect it to the power? I've had battery bulging issues with every MacBook Pro I've ever owned, even including 2019 MacBook Pro 16", and I'm absolutely certain that they're caused by the battery being charged in extreme CPU-load temperatures by Apple firmware. Is there a way to prevent it from burning my lap? ![]() Is there any way to limit the MBA to a 5W operation? So, enough with background, can someone explain without any of the marketing what does the "low power mode" of MacOS 12 Monterey actually does? This further goes to prove that I won't be able to get more than 4h out of MacBook Air at default settings, with the lowest possible runtime being 50Wh/25W = 2 hours. NotebookCheck indicates M1 has "Load Average" and "Load Maximum" at 25W and 30W, whereas an MT8183 - 5.4W and 8.9W. If we consider Apple's estimate being 25% truthful like with MBP16", this probably translates to 4.5h of runtime for my "extreme" usage. MacBook Air (both M1 and M2) are rated at 18h by Apple. Looks like the claim is 25% true in the way I use the wireless web. ![]() Even though Apple rates MBP16" 2019 at 11h of "wireless web". Similar usage got me 2h to 3h on a MacBook Pro 16" 2019, a burned lap, and jet-engine noise from the fans. Cannot get below 10h runtime at full brightness on MT8183. I usually have a dozen windows with a dozens tabs open. It never gets even warm during the use on the lap - the only way to get it to warm up a little, is to charge the battery. I cannot get below 10h out of this thing regardless how many tabs I have open. I've recently been using a $99 4GB 64GB MT8183 2-in-1 Chromebook, Lenovo IP Flex 3 Chrome 11M836, there are some limitations mostly from just the 4GB RAM, but I'm very happy with the battery life of the thing. I've been using OS X and macOS on and off, before it was cool. ![]()
